Fun with fitness that's better together

APEx (Advocating Physical Exercise) is a group of people run by volunteers who want to get out & about with lovely people in beautiful places, putting smiles on our faces & a glow in our hearts. We arrange interesting, manageable and fun activities for people of all ages and abilities, encouraging people to be more active, physically & socially, & so feel better in themselves. Whether it's your first walk round the park in ages or swimming across the Mersey, whether your're 7 or 70, we all love getting out, blowing the cobwebs away whilst enjoying company of lovely people.

The sense of achievement is powerful regardless of what level of activity you're ready to engage with, and makes us feel so much better in ourselves. Many of us have significant health problems, but we're made to feel welcome and are free to choose what's right for us with the help and care of the participants to encourage you to take that step or stride. You can also feel sure you will be safe; all activities are supervised and organised by experienced people and professionals who give their time for free to help you get out, get active and smile!

Membership is free, as are most of the activities, except for the cost of a bus and train ticket, swimming fees, or the price of a sandwich and a cuppa.

We currently have the following groups to persuade you to get out on even the dullest of days:

Trail Trundles in the hills of North Wales

Non-APEx Wild Swimming & Trail Trundling:

There are some members with a more adventurous spirit who also join together to try their hand at Wild Swimming in the rivers Dee and Mersey, and another bunch who go Trail Trundling (a mixture of fell running, walking and sight seeing). These are more energetic activities with inherent, but emminently manageable, increased risks so are not APEx activities, but if you like the sound of early Sunday morning swimming without walls in April's 15 degrees C water or running 8 miles but with lower impact on your joints, there are certainly some kindred spirits with a range of abilities and adrenaline with whom you can make your own arrangements. What's more, as with the spirit of the APEx activities, there's not a stop watch or a chequred flag in sight.

Join Us!

We'd love you to come along & have a laugh with us. After all, exercising isn't just about living longer... we insist on having fun with our fitness and we aren't so big on stop watches, unless you want to..?

Together, we can blow away the cobwebs with a short walk in the park, a gentle jog round the block, or build up fitness to take part in more challenging events. We have trained and experienced leaders in all our activities, so we can show you the ropes if you want to, and only ever at your own pace.

No drill sergeants and boot camps here, or endless hours alone on a treadmill; a big part of what we do is coming together with folk from all backgrounds, ages and abilities, making new friends, having some fun whilst expanding our horizons and shrinking our waistlines!
