West Kirby Self Help Group

West Kirby Drop-in Centre is a facility for adults with mental health problems, and is open to anyone who lives in Wirral.

You will be warmly welcomed and offered a tea or coffee on arrival. You can sit and relax in the friendly atmosphere and chat if you want to.  There are lots of things you can do, including badminton, bingo, board games, walking, quizzes, arts and crafts, table tennis, listening to music, or you can just sit and relax.

The Drop-In is held on Tuesdays from 10.30am til 2pm at the United Reform Church, Meols Drive, West Kirby.

A tasty meal is always on offer for £1, ranging from scouse to omelettes to Haggis!  There is also unlimited tea, coffee and cold drinks for just 50p.

People from all walks of life come to the centre, and everyone is invited to join in and have a go, but it’s totally up to you.  You may like to suggest a day trip: our latest visits have been to Liverpool museums, Chester, and the beautiful village of Portmeirion in Wales.  You may want to learn how to cook easy, tasty, cheap meals, and we will happily show you, and get you to have a try yourself.  You may want to listen to ‘heavy metal’, or bring along your own guitar and play us something, and that’s fine too.

It’s your Drop-in, and you are involved in deciding its way forward.

The other equally important part of the Drop-in is the advocacy service.  You can come and see an Advocate from Advocacy in Wirral for advice on social and welfare benefits, housing issues, debts etc. A cup of tea and some practical help can be a real boon especially when you’re not feeling too well.

We asked people who attend the Drop-in to tell us why they come.  These were some of the things they said:-

“there is a family atmosphere here”
“the quizzes”
“lunch”
“conversation over tea/coffee”

The important thing is that you go away feeling a lot better, and less isolated, than if you had sat at home.

GIVE US A TRY AND SEE WHAT YOU THINK!

It is easy to get to as there is a bus stop right outside the United Reformed Church on Meols Drive, where it is held.  West Kirby train station is 2 minutes walk away:
Turn right out of the station and walk along the main Grange Road past the shops, cross over Bridge Road and the church is the first building you come to.  Walk 20 yards along the pavement and you come to the door to the church hall.
