Womens Group
Women's Group
Our Women’s Group has been running since April 2008, and is open to any woman in Wirral who experiences anxiety, stress or depression, or who may just feel a little ‘down’ and/or isolated.Feedback from our Advocates has made us aware that many women need some time to ‘off load’ their problems in a safe and friendly environment, and hopefully this is the time and place for you to do this with each of you will be offered your own time to say how you are feeling. Equally, if you don’t want to talk, that’s fine. It has been our philosophy that the women who attend the group decide what direction it should take, but one thing is for certain, there will be plenty of tea/coffee and biscuits available, and hopefully, you will leave the group feeling a little better than when you arrived. The Group runs on TUESDAYS between 1.30pm – 3.30pm at 66 Woodside Business, Shore Rd, Birkenhead (next door to AiW's offices), and is Facilitated by Lilian Baker. Importantly, the group also has a ‘social’ side to it and we have had several outings. These have included a trip to the cinema, lunch in a local pub (went on for about 4 hours), and a fun day on a canal boat. A few of the women have also undertaken some visits together outside of the group, including a show at the Pacific Theatre and a trip to a Social Club. In June 2008, we were invited to visit a colleague’s garden. John, one of our Directors, and his wife Ann, open their garden to the public under the National Gardens Scheme, for charity, and they invited us for a private viewing, where we tucked into tea, coffee and scones. The garden was lovely, the sun shone (yes, it really did), and we had a wonderful afternoon. John and Ann have kindly offered to repeat the visit this year. If you are interested, there are many lovely and unusual gardens in the Wirral and Cheshire areas well worth a visit. We have plenty of ideas for further visits and activities in the coming months. We feel quite excited about our group. It is very well attended, and the women have built up a special rapport. You can just turn up for the group, or feel free to telephone us on 650 1530 for more information. One thing we can promise is ... YOU WLL BE MADE VERY WELCOME! The work of the Women's Group is supported financially by NHS Wirral. |
